The Polish news agency reported that a spokesperson for the state's prosecution said on Monday the decision does not stem from political considerations, but is standard procedure.
The report said the prosecution was waiting to receive a number of "original documents" on the detainee before formally requesting his extradition.
Earlier, a court spokesman said it would give its final ruling on the suspect's extradition within one month .
"The man sought by Germany was detained a week ago. He will be held for up to 40 days and during this time the court will have to rule whether to extradite him," said Wojciech Malek, a spokesman for the Warsaw district court.
According to a report in Der Spiegel over the weekend, a German investigation in recent months revealed that the suspect would help Mossad agents obtain German passports. The report said he was in charge of logistics in Germany for the assassination operation, in which a man by the name of Michael Bodenheimer was, whose passport turned out to be real and not forged, was involved.
The Polish prosecution said the suspect was brought before a judge on June 6, and that his remand was extended for 40 days.
