From Germany to Israel in pictures
Dr. Rudy Goldstein, a German Jewish doctor, immigrated to Israel upon the Nazis' rise to power in 1934. He used his camera to document the places he visited on the way: His medical studies in Berlin, his sail to Tel Aviv and the inauguration of the Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital. First part in series
Dr. Rudy Goldstein graduated from medical school in Berlin as the Nazis rose to power. He immigrated to Israel in 1934 and worked as a doctor in different places across the country.
He used his camera to document places and deeds in the Land of Israel. Next to each photo, he wrote captions in German. As not all the captions are readable, we would appreciate our readers' help in understating the photos.
Rudy and his wife did not have any children either, but their relatives – the wife of Avraham Tachover and their children – kept the photo albums. I would like to thank them for that. Here is the first part of three.
1. Rudy (L) with fellow medicine students, December 1929. The names that could be identified include: Gerda Cohen, Meir, Lola, Leo Bloom
2. Another photo of Rudy (R) and fellow students, 1929
13. Another photo from the Mount Scopus ceremony
Mysterious picture
The photo bellow was taken by photographer Zoltan Kluger. I received it from the Jewish National Fund archive and was asked by its manager, Mrs. Pnina Livni, to ask our readers to provide details on the Tel Aviv school this photo was taken at. If any of you recognize the picture, the teacher or the students, please contact Bitmuna through the talkback feature or by email . Thank you!
- In the coming weeks we will bring you photos from communities in the Jezreel Valley, the Jordan Valley, malaria research near the Hula Valley, Rudy volunteering for the British army during World War II
