2 US police officers injured in shooting

Authorities in Florida have begun a massive manhunt for two suspects in the shooting of two Tampa police officers during a traffic stop. Police say an officer pulled over a red Toyota Camry around 2.15 am Tuesday because it didn't have a visible license plate.

Tampa Police spokeswoman Laura McElroy says he called for backup after a background check revealed the male passenger in the car was wanted for a misdemeanor. A short time later, a witness called to say two officers had been shot. McElroy says they were transported to the hospital in "extremely critical condition." (AP)
