UN: Human traffickers make $3 billion a year in Europe

None

A UN study says traffickers who trick women and children to prostitution and forced labor earn about $3 billion a year through one of Europe's most lucrative crimes.

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime estimated in a report released Tuesday that crime gangs are currently controlling more than 140,000 people. Many victims are tricked into leaving their homes in poor areas of eastern Europe, Africa and Latin America with promises of work. (AP)
