Fallen soldiers' org asks that definition of AWOL soldier be set in law

The fallen soldiers' memorial organization Yad Labanim sent an urgent letter to Defense Minister Ehud Barak calling that the definition of a soldier who defected from the IDF be set in the law in order to avoid situations in which soldiers who have gone missing from their service are granted a military burial in the case of their death.
The letter was sent on the backdrop of the attorney general's ruling that ordered the IDF to bury soldier Yair Sasson in a military cemetery even though he was AWOL. The attorney general decided the way he did because the matter is not set in legislation, but only in IDF General Staff regulations. (Hanan Greenberg)
