US warns of al-Qaeda threat in Burkina Faso

The State Department warned Thursday that a group connected to al-Qaida's terror network in North Africa is planning to kidnap an American or another Westerner in northern Burkina Faso.
The US Embassy in the Burkinabe capital of Ouagadougou said in a notice to Americans that it had information the unnamed group is looking to abduct "unidentified US citizen" near the northern city of Ouahigouya and had barred all official travel to the area without approval. (AP)
