Home Front Command chief: Citizens should buy own gas masks
GOC Home Front Command Maj. Gen. Yair Golan said the program to distribute gas masks to citizens had failed and claimed that this was the result of budgetary problems which prevent the production of masks for all Israeli citizens.
He suggested a different method be adopted which would transfer responsibility from the state to the citizen – most citizens would buy the masks themselves for some NIS 220 ($56) each. He added that the State chooses what requires attention at times of crisis, but "the rest is up to the citizen." (Hanan Greenberg)
