US: August 1 is not date set for direct talks
None
US State Department spokesman Philip Crowley told a press conference reports that direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians would begin on August 1 were not necessarily true. He said the talks would only begin on that date if conditions allowed it.
Crowley mentioned US special envoy George Mitchell's return to the region and the renewal of the proximity talks, and said direct negotiations were the best way to ensure a fair deal for both sides. (AFP)
