Knesset committee passes Golan referendum bill in 2nd, 3rd readings

The bill proposing that any withdrawal from territory in Jerusalem or the Golan Heights was passed by the Knesset House Committee in its second and third readings. Six committee members voted in favor or the bill, and two voted against it.

According to the bill, should the government approve a withdrawal from territory under full Israeli sovereignty – the Golan Heights and east Jerusalem – the decision will be put to a vote in the Knesset. Once passed in the Knesset, a national referendum will be held within 180. Only a vote of 80 Knesset members or more can forego a referendum. (Zvi Lavi)
