Jerusalem voted 'best city' in Africa, Middle East
Readers of Travel + Leisure magazine select Tel Aviv as third best city in region
Jerusalem has been voted the No. 1 "Best City in Africa and the Middle East", and Tel Aviv No. 3, by the readers of Travel+Leisur magazine, considered by many as America's leading travel magazine. Cape Town came in second.
"We are thrilled by this result," says Arie Sommer, Israel tourism commissioner, North and South America, "because it underscores the growing realization by sophisticated travelers that our two main cities are unique and extraordinary places to visit."
Tourism to Israel in 2008 and 2009 broke all records, and early statistics show that 2010 will be the best year ever for tourism to Israel.
Published by the American Express Company, Travel+Leisure reveals its annual World's Best Awards in the magazine's August issue. The last time Jerusalem won was in 2000. This is the first time Tel Aviv has appeared in the top three.
