Loud dispute over conversion law in coalition

A load dispute broke out in Knesset between coalition chairman MK Zeev Elkin (Likud), MK David Rotem (Yisrael Beiteinu) and Social Affairs Minister Isaac Herzog over the conversion law.

 

MK Rotem demanded the bill be voted on in the Knesset plenum next week, and threatened to put the civil marriage vote back on the agenda of his demand is not met. Minister Herzog confronted him, in light of the Labor party's stance, which opposes the conversion law. Meanwhile, representatives of various Jewish organizations arrived at the Knesset on Wednesday in an attempt to pressure the government into not approving the law. (Attila Somfalvi)
