An official says a NATO airstrike killed a Taliban commander responsible for a suicide attack on a US aid program in northern Afghanistan. The police chief of Kunduz province in the north said Friday that a precision airstrike killed a local Taliban commander who uses the alias Qari Latif.

Police chief Abdul Razaq Yaqoubi says Latif died along with 12 other insurgents when a NATO bomb targeted them while they met in a field under a tree Thursday outside the provincial capital. (AP)
