Begin, Meridor oppose allegiance bill in cabinet

Minister Dan Meridor and Minister Benny Begin opposed the bill being discussed in the cabinet that would bind foreigners seeking Israeli citizenship to swear allegiance to Israel as a "Jewish and democratic country."
Minister Meridor said, "We don't need to throw this in the face of Arab Israelis." Minister Begin added, "It is uncertain whether we need to decide on this now. This necessitates a deep discussion." (Roni Sofer)
