Iran activist sentenced to year in prison

An Iranian journalist and human rights activist has been sentenced to a year in prison and a five-year ban from political activity for founding an organization protecting the rights of Iranian prisoners. The sentence was given after a two-year trial.
The journalist was arrested last December following his participation in anti-election protests. (AFP)
