Israeli killed in parachute accident in Peru

Gush of wind slams 39-year-old parachute competitor into mountainside, causing very serious injures. Man later dies of wounds in hospital

A 39-year-old Israeli was killed in a parachute competition in Peru on Saturday, local media reported. His family was notified of his death.

 

According to the report, the Israeli was participating in a freefall parachute competition in the city of Huancayo, and was hurt when a strong gush of wind slammed him into the site of a mountain.

 

He sustained very serious wounds, and his evacuation from the site took a relatively long time. He died of his wounds in hospital.

 

The Foreign Ministry said the Israeli embassy in Lima was in contact with the deceased's family.

 

A video of the horrific accident was published in Peru. The Israeli parachutist can be seen swirling in the air and then crashing into the mountain with great force.

 

Some two months ago, another Israeli was killed in a tragic accident in South America. Adi Paran, 23 from Beersheba, was killed when the ATV he was driving fell of a cliff in the Valley of the Moon in Bolivia, near the capital of La Paz.

 

The Foreign Ministry said Paran's friends, who were with him at the time of the accident, called for help, and local forces arrived at the site and located the body.

 

In July 2009, 23-year-old Galit Sasson of Ness Ziona fell to her death during a trip near the ancient Inca city of Cusco in Peru. Sasson was two weeks away from the end of her trip and was slated to return to Israel.
