Civilian guard standing at Qalandiya checkpoint shot in hand, still unclear who fired
A civilian security guard was injured Monday afternoon at Qalandiya checkpoint, north of Jerusalem. He sustained a hand injury while standing at the observation post.
The guard was taken to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem, and security forces are currently investigating who fired the shot that hit him.
Qalandiya checkpoint is considered a sensitive point of contact between soldiers and Palestinians, and a number of violent incidents have occurred there in the past.
Six months ago security guards fired at a truck driver because they feared he was attempting to run them over.
The driver, who arrived from the direction of Qalandiya refugee camp, was startled by Palestinians who threw stones at him and made haste for the checkpoint. He was moderately inujured.
