Turkey fails to name top army chiefs

Turkey's government has refused to approve key military appointments, including its top army chief.

Gen. Hasan Igsiz was in line to become land forces commander, but was blocked because of alleged involvement in an Internet campaign to undermine the government. In addition, 11 generals and admirals charged in an alleged 2003 plot to bring down the government were not promoted by a military panel late Wednesday. (AP)
