Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Mualem sent a missive to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and other international figures following the indictment against three residents of northern Israel suspected of spying for Syria. Al-Mualem spoke against "Ongoing Israeli violations in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights and the arrest of Syrian nationals in the village of Majdal Shams in the Golan on fabricated charges in an attempt to frighten them."
The Syrian news agency SANA reported that al-Mualem demanded the UN put pressure on Israel to halt violations of international law and withdraw from Syrian soil. (Roee Nahmias)
