Sudan renews threat to expel international groups

Sudan's president has once again threatened to expel any international agency violating the country's laws. President Omar al-Bashir addressed local leaders in the western region of Darfur where the UN's humanitarian arm has been denied access to a massive refugee camp following deadly clashes. Sudan also accuses the UN-African Union peacekeeping force of harboring five individuals from the camp wanted by the government.
Al-Bashir told the gathering late Saturday that any international organization exceeding its mandate would be expelled. The president in March 2009 expelled more than a dozen aid organizations from Darfur after he was charged with crimes against humanity by an international court for his role in the suppression of the Darfur rebellion.
