Turkish soldiers kill 5 Kurd fighters laying mines

Turkish soldiers killed five Kurdish militants, including a woman, in a firefight after discovering the guerrillas laying mines outside a town in the volatile southeast, security officials said.

The dead fighters were believed to belong to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK). Two sergeants were wounded in the clash outside Besiri town in mountainous Batman province. (Reuters)
