Gaza power plant reopens

The Gaza Strip's sole power plant reopened on Monday after lack of diesel fuel had forced it to shut down two days earlier, a spokesman for the electricity distribution company said.

But the fuel was only sufficient to operate one of the plant's four turbines, Jamal Aldardasawi added. The power plant shut down on Saturday due to a payment dispute between the strip's Hamas rulers and the rival Palestinian Authority in the West Bank, according to Kanaan Obeid, assistant director of Gaza's electricity authority.
