UN says Gaza panel will decide on follow-up

The UN says a panel probing a deadly Israeli raid on a Gaza-bound international flotilla will decide how to follow-up national investigations by Israel and Turkey. UN spokesman Martin Nesirky did not rule out that the panel, which met Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon for the first time on Tuesday, might seek to talk to Israeli soldiers or officials from either side to seek information or clarification.
Ban said Monday that there was no agreement with Israel not to summon Israeli soldiers before the panel. But Israel's defense chief on Tuesday opposed allowing soldiers to testify and Israel officials threatened to pull out of the inquiry. (AP)
