IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant-General Gabi Ashkenazi said during his testimony before the Turkel panel that the soldiers who raided the Marmara ship shot at the activists because they felt their lives were in danger.
"They acted in an extraordinary manner. Today we know that after the first soldier was dropped the second soldier was shot. The soldiers opened fire legitimately, shot only those they needed to, I am personally proud these are our soldiers," he said. (Ari Galahar)
