Kurdish rebels fighting Turkey from bases in northern Iraq have declared a unilateral cease-fire for the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
The Kurdistan Workers' Party, known by its Kurdish acronym PKK, says the group's fighters will "cease all their military operations inside Turkey" but will defend themselves if attacked. Group spokesman Bouzan Teken told reporters the cease-fire will last from Friday until Sept. 20 to coincide with the period in which Muslims fast from dawn to dusk. (AP)
