Three people, including a police officer, were killed by gunfire when protesting farmers turned violent over inadequate compensation from the government for land bought to build a highway in northern India, an official said Sunday.
Angry farmers fired weapons at police late Saturday killing the officer, while a farmer died in the subsequent exchange of fire in Jikarpur village in Uttar Pradesh state, said official Shaskank S. Singh. (AP)
