Associates: Pearlman ridiculed by Shin Bet interrogators

Man suspected of killing four Arabs in the 90s questioned again; his friends say interrogators mocked him, stressed they are not frustrated over his release to house arrest

Associates of Haim Pearlman claimed he was ridiculed while being interrogated by the Shin Bet security service on Sunday.

Pearlman's attorney said his client was summoned for another interrogation on Monday as well.

On Thursday, Pearlman, who is suspected of murdering four Arabs and attempting to kill seven others in the 1990s, was released to house arrest at his parents' home on the West Bank community of Tekoa.

According to associates, Pearlman was questioned for 10 hours in Petah Tikva. They claimed his interrogators sang, "Ten (Noam) Federmans, nine (Itamar) Ben-Gvirs, eight bombs, seven injured, three killed and one Haim Pearlman." The interrogators also sang "Haim Mishkafayim (Haim four-eyes)", the suspect's friends said.

The associates said that during the interrogation, Shin Bet personnel stressed that they were not frustrated by Pearlman's release to house arrest and the criticism leveled at the agency over its handling of the affair.

According to one friend, Sunday's interrogation marked a "new low" for the Shin Bet's Jewish Division.

"This division costs the State millions, and if this is what its interrogators can come up with, then the situation is dire," said the friend. "It's time that an external committee investigate the whole affair."

Pearlman claimed that during a previous questioning session he was tied to a chair and "abused."
