Palestinian linked to 1972 Munich attack dies

Amin al-Hindi, who is believed to have been involved in murder of 11 members of Israel's Olympic team dies of cancer in Jordanian hospital

Amin al-Hindi, a Palestinian who is believed to have been involved in the Munich attack on Israel's Olympic team in 1972 and who helped found the Palestinian security services, has died. He was 70.

Ata Khairy, the Palestinian envoy to Jordan, says al-Hindi died of cancer of the liver and pancreas in a Jordanian hospital Tuesday.

Khairy says al-Hindi slipped into a coma after he underwent surgery in Jordan last week.

He said al-Hindi's body was transported overland Wednesday to the West Bank en route to the Gaza Strip, where he will be buried.

Al-Hindi, a Gazan, headed the Palestinian General Intelligence Service under the late Palestinian president Yasser Arafat. He also served as a senior security officer in the Palestine Liberation Organization's ruling Fatah party in the 1970s.
