Syria has condemned the Quartet announcement on the renewal of direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, noting that such talks were futile.
"If Israel won't fulfill international decisions, and the Palestinians say the settlements and siege will continue – why are they launching talks which will fail or produce an agreement worse than Oslo?" asked an editorial published in official newspaper Tishrin. (AFP)
