France, Egypt want Med summit to be peace forum

The presidents of France and Egypt, Nicolas Sarkozy and Hosni Mubarak, want a planned November summit of leaders from around the Mediterranean to underpin a possible Middle East peace accord.

Sarkozy said "new hope presents itself" with the resumption of direct talks between Israeli and Palestinian leaders later this week in Washington. (AP)
