State Dept.: New York imam heading back to US

The State Department says the imam leading plans for an Islamic center near the site of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks in New York is returning to the United States on Wednesday.

 

State Department spokesman Mark Toner says Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf has completed a Persian Gulf trip that was intended to promote religious tolerance. Rauf is departing the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday, and will return to New York. (AP)
