A convicted serial killer who withdrew his confessions in eight murder cases has been acquitted of killing an Israeli tourist 22 years ago.
In a retrial, the district court in Falun on Friday found Sture Bergwall innocent of killing 24-year-old Yenon Levi in Hedemora, central Sweden, in 1988.
Bergwall, who changed his name from Thomas Quick, was sentenced to psychiatric care in the early 1990s, after pleading guilty to a string of murders.
The 60-year-old Swede withdrew his confession last year in the Levi murder and seven others, saying he had admitted to the killings under the influence of tranquilizers.
Bergwall is expected to seek a retrial in each case.
