Shas Chairman and Interior Minister Eli Yishai may have refused to forgo instating Standard Time earlier this year, but not everyone in his party seems to agree with the decision: MK Chaim Amsellem, a known moderate voice in the religious party, said the dispute was redundant.
"This is much ado about nothing," he said Sunday. "Many of us in the religious public also think that it is doubtful Standard Time would be that beneficial. It is not worth the controversy."

Amsellem believes his party "should consider dropping the whole thing. Jews in the United States and Europe fast as well – nothing will happen if we start and finish the fast one hour later.
"We must consider the public's wishes. This is Rosh Hashana, a time of self-examination and we should think twice about this."
Yishai himself initially said he would be willing to consider pushing the reinstatement of Standard Time, but later deemed the matter inapplicable.
