Greek protesters confront government on economy

Thousands of Greeks took to the streets Saturday in union-led protests against the debt-plagued country's harsh austerity program, before a keynote speech on the economy by the prime minister.
Some 11,000 people joined in three separate marches in Thessaloniki, while about 4,500 police were on duty to keep the peace as past protests have degenerated into riots. In May, three people died in a bank torched by hooded youths who infiltrated a large demonstration in Athens - an action that shocked Greeks and deflated the protest movement. (AP)
