Yishai: No religious motive behind summer time law
None
Interior Affairs Minister Eli Yishai said moving the clocks back to standard time was not a religious issue, and that the law for summer time was passed during the tenure of Avraham Poraz, supported by the (secular) Meretz and Shinui parties when Yishai's (religious) party, Shas, was in opposition.
"At the heart of the law there is no religious motive, but a balance between social and economic needs," he said. "The date was agreed on by the entire political spectrum." (Ronen Medzini)
