Interior Minister Eli Yishai said he was "skeptical" regarding the success of direct peace talks with the Palestinians, and that he believed a construction freeze imposed on West Bank settlements would end as scheduled, on September 26.
"The Palestinians are not interested in true peace and are placing every obstacle before the agreement in order to prevent it. They are not capable of recognizing a Jewish state or at least stopping the incitement against Israel. Netanyahu is willing to go a long way for peace but the Palestinians are not," he told the Knesset's Internal Affairs Committee. (Roni Sofer)
