Bar mitzvah hit by stray wedding shots

Two bullets fired at Arab wedding in Shibli village shock guests at bar mitzvah party in Kfar Tavor

Gunfire shocked guests of a bar mitzvah in Kfar Tavor on Thursday, as two bullets apparently fired at a wedding taking place in the neighboring village of Shibli flew into the backyard hosting the celebration.

The bullets hit the backyard tables and, miraculously, there were no injuries among Daniel Goldstein's 90 guests.

"Throughout the entire evening we heard gunshot sounds from a wedding held at the village," Mirit Goldstein, Daniel's mother told Ynet.

After the guests finished their dinner and got ready to watch a special presentation put together for the bar mitzva boy a loud sound was heard. "One of the guests yelled it was a bullet. It just barely missed his hand and his wife's chest," family member Jonathan Goldstein related.

The shots caused great confusion, sending half of the guests inside the house. "We were lucky tonight, a great miracle occurred," Mirit said. "My son's celebration could have ended in an unthinkable disaster." Daniel, extremely alarmed, said: "I'm scared to death it will happen again."

Mirit said that the family had also experienced ricochet fire from neighboring events on Rosh Hashana. "I very much respect them, I'd ask that they respect our lives too,"  she said.

She noted that Kfar Tavor had already suffered a terrible disaster three years ago when 9-year-old Tal Zino was run over on Yom Kippur by an ATV driver, a resident of the neighboring village.

Police officers who were called to the scene found the two bullets, which had caused damage to some of the tables, and conducted patrols in the village. A police official said that both the Shibli and Kfar Tavor council heads have been alerted.
