US fights order to release Guantanamo detainee

None

The United States is asking an appeals court to throw out a judge's order to release a Guantanamo Bay prisoner accused of recruiting Sept. 11 hijackers who says he confessed during abusive interrogation.

The 9/11 commission, which investigated the government's activities before and after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, described Mohamedou Ould Salahi in its report as a significant al-Qaeda operative who instructed hijackers how to reach Afghanistan to train for holy war. (AP)
