Knesset speaker: Yom Kippur War taught us not to sink into illusions

None

Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin spoke at a memorial ceremony for the victims of the Yom Kippur War and said, "The main lesson from the war is our commitment not to sink into comfortable illusions, which favor the wishes of the heart at the expense of the facts. We must not go back and become addicted to some old-new illusion that we have finally obtained our rest and land."

Three years later, said Rivlin, a peace deal with Egypt was signed. "We felt then that this was not just another photo-op on the White House lawn and not an interim agreement clouded by fog. We felt that the other side was truly ready," he said. (Roni Sofer)
