Letter containing white powder sent to Turkish Embassy

Firefighter teams specializing in handling dangerous substances dispatched to Turkish Embassy in Tel Aviv to check suspicious letter. Last week, similar envelopes sent to three other embassies in city

An envelope containing white powder was sent to the Turkish Embassy in Tel Aviv on Monday, prompting the arrival of rescue forces including firefighter teams specializing in dangerous substances to the site. There were no reports of injuries.

It was the fourth time within a week that rescue forces have been dispatched to Tel Aviv following suspicious envelopes being found in embassies.

A preliminary inquiry suggested that embassy staff opened mail bags at noon and found a "heavy" letter. An unidentified white powder was found inside the envelope. Staff called the embassy's security personnel who in turn called the police and fire brigades.

A special team headed by Lior Taharani from Tel Aviv's Fire and Rescue Services arrived at the embassy to check the substance. Meanwhile, police launched an investigation to find out who sent the suspicious letter.

Last Tuesday, envelopes containing white powder and threats on the State of Israel and the government were sent to the American, Spanish and Swedish embassies in Tel Aviv.

Security forces were rushed to the Turkish embassy last month after Nadim Injaz, a former Shin Ben collaborator entered the building and caused a flare-up during which we was shot and got injured.

He was held by the Turks for several hours before being allowed to be treated by Magen David Adom teams and was eventually taken to the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center.
