Egypt backs Palestinian position on settlements
Egypt is backing the Palestinians' refusal to negotiate with Israel as long as it builds West Bank settlements, while urging continued diplomacy to try to salvage US-mediated talks that started only a month ago.
Washington's Mideast envoy met Sunday with President Hosni Mubarak to discuss the impasse ahead of an Arab League meeting this week at which the Palestinians are expected to deliver a final decision on the fate of the talks. (AP)
