Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed to extend the West Bank building moratorium by a few extra months in exchange for a commitment that it will not be renewed for a third time and an assurance that the construction work that has been started will be completed, according to a report in al-Sharq al-Awsat that cited Israeli sources.
According to the report, Netanyahu asked Washington to agree that Israeli troops be stationed in the Jordan Rift Valley as part of a final peace agreement. According to the newspaper, the prime minister called upon the Americans to help him address broad opposition to the move, and explained that he needs a series of accomplishments that he can present to his ministers.
