Civil rights group: Court's ruling on gays 'adds locks to closet'

None

The Association for Civil Rights in Israel announced that the decision of the Beersheba family court, which ruled that homosexual couples cannot be recognized under common law marriage, "is an attempt to put back legal progress by decades."

ACRI's Chief Legal Counsel Attorney Dan Yakir said the ruling meant discrimination against couples of the same sex. "When many homosexuals have still not 'come out,' the judges must consider the complexity of the situation instead of adding more locks to the closet," he said. (Ilana Curiel)
