Spain to work to abolish death penalty throughout world

None

Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero announced his government would set up an international committee to work against the death penalty. He said the committee's aims would be to cause states to suspend the death penalty until 2015, and then cancel it altogether.

He said the day in which the death penalty disappears from the world would be the day that "humanity would be more dignified and humans more free." (AFP)
