Government approves Citizenship Act amendment

The government has voted in favor of an amendment to the Citizenship Act which will obligate new non-Jewish citizens of Israel to pledge allegiance to a "Jewish, democratic state".

 

Twenty-two of the participants in the vote voted in favor and eight opposed, including ministers from Labor as well as Benny Begin, Dan Meridor, and Michael Eitan. (Attila Somfalvi)
