Turkey urges France to help push EU bid forward

Turkey's foreign minister says he has asked France to help push his country's EU membership bid ahead.
Ahmet Davutoglu said Tuesday he had asked for France's "active support" so that negotiations on a number of policy areas may start. He was speaking at a joint news conference with French counterpart Bernard Kouchner. France is among the toughest critics of Turkey's EU membership and the EU has halted negotiations on some policy areas over Turkey's refusal to open its ports to trade with EU-member Cyprus. (AP)
