Bill on foreign funding reports passes preliminary reading
None
The Knesset approved in preliminary reading a bill requiring foundations to report receiving funds from foreign countries. In case of a campaign receiving designated funds, the foundation must publically state the donators.
MK Zeev Elkin (Likud), who initiated the bill said, "The bill aims at protecting the citizens of Israel of foreign influence which does not correspond with national needs and interests. This is an attempt to prevent cases similar to the Goldstone Report which is primarily based on material from Israeli groups which presented themselves as unbiased and independent." (Roni Sofer)
