Message on the wall

School warehouse torched near Nablus

Palestinians say settlers infiltrated village of Sawiyeh, sprayed 'regards from the hills' on school wall. Head of Civil Administration sends calming message to PA officials

Palestinians reported Wednesday that a school warehouse was torched in the West Bank village of Sawiyeh. The message "regards from the hills" was sprayed on one of the walls.

According to the Palestinians, settlers infiltrated the girls school on Tuesday night, broke two locks and torched the warehouse, where school sports gear and furniture is kept. The students held a protest Wednesday morning near the site.

School principal Meison Sawalhe told Ynet this was not the first time settlers and soldiers targeted the school. "Last year a settler came in here and started shooting, it was a miracle there were no injuries. Soldiers are also always pestering the students but this is the first time such a thing has happened."

The principal says school supers discovered the arson in the morning and claims the whole building would have caught fire had it not been for a tap placed inside the warehouse. The message sprayed on the wall does not leave any room for doubt as to the perpetrators' identity, as far as Sawalhe is concerned.

The village of Sawiyeh is situated between a number of settlements, the closest of which is Eli.

The Civil Administration contacted senior officials in the Palestinian Authority to inform them of the incident and send calming messages.
