UN finds poor conditions in Greek jails

The United Nations' top anti-torture envoy says conditions in Greek prison and police station detention facilities are often "appalling," with severe overcrowding and limited access to health care.

Manfred Nowak described Greek detention facilities as being "in a situation of crisis," with some holding three times more people than they have capacity for. He spoke Wednesday at the end of a 10-day visit to Greece, where he toured prisons, police and border guard stations, migrant detention centers and prison hospitals. (AP)
