Netherlands seeks to slow Serbia EU entry bid

The Netherlands is seeking to slow Serbia's progress toward European Union membership, saying the country needs first to arrest Ratko Mladic, Europe's most-wanted war criminal. EU foreign ministers debated Monday whether to pass Serbia's application , filed almost a year ago, to the European Commission for detailed review.
That was too fast for the Netherlands. The Dutch accuse Serbia of not looking hard enough for Mladic, an ex-Bosnian Serb Army general accused in the 1995 massacre of more than 8,000 men and boys in the town of Srebrenica, unhindered by Dutch peacekeepers. Dutch Foreign Minister Uri Rosenthal, officials said, insisted that Serbia's EU entry be linked to Mladic's arrest. (AP)
