EU may grant candidate status to Montenegro but not Albania

The European Union is likely to grant Montenegro candidate status in November but defer opening entry talks with the ex-Yugoslav state because of corruption and slow democratic reform, an EU official said Wednesday.
The Commission is also expected to deny candidate status for now to Albania. The report will not change the status of Serbia, which will face Commission scrutiny over the next year, after submitting its application less than a year ago. (Reuters)
